OBR Control Packs for GM LS3 & LS7 Engines
What the base kit includes....
Our 3 kits for the LS engines are based on our Euro-2+, Euro-4 and Euro-8+ ECUs. All controllers are specially configured to control standard features on the LS engine, you do NOT have to change or modify any sensor or actuator on the engine.
Important Notice
Our control packs are calibrated using premium fuel with 93 octane rating with fuel pressure set to 60 psi.
- It is essential that you use this fuel grade.
- Using a fuel with lesser octane rating may result in severe engine damages
Please contact us if this fuel grade is not available in your area and we will provide you with a 87 octane calibration.
If you are using our calibration tool OB256, you can of course adjust the spark advance to whatever you choose.
Engine Computer
All 3 ECU options are designed and built in Italy, all originally as OEM systems for well known industry manufacturers but updated to include dedicated motorsports features and on-board data recording with Euro-4 and Euro-8+ ECUs.
Please note that Euro-2+ controls the engine in batch mode only.
The Euro-4 ECU provides full sequential fuel injection combined with batch fire ignition while Euro-8+ ECU operates in full sequential control mode for LS engines - and includes a staged injection feature controlling 16 injectors.
Euro-4 and Euro-8+ ECUs both have control features to be expected to find in an OEM system, including the ability to handle flex fuel control.
Engine Wiring Harness
Our harnesses are built here in Livonia (Michigan) and uses high tech aircraft type wire with an insulation of cross-linked, modified ethylene tetrafluoroethylene co-polymer (ETFE).
The wire is insulated with modified radiation cross-linked ETFE polymer. It has a temperature rating of -65°C to 200°C [-85°F to 392°F] continuous using a silver plated copper conductor, and combines the easy handling of a flexible wire with excellent scrape abrasion and cut-through characteristics.
The insulation resists high PH cleaning fluids, fuels, lubricating oils, and many other chemicals.
These wires are a mechanically tough, flame retardant and weight saving solution to many motorsport and aerospace applications.
Due to the quality of the advanced insulation used the wire is lightweight and very thin.
For example, our 22 gauge wire has an outer diameter of only 0.043" (1.09 mm) and the 20 gauge wire has a diameter of only 0.050" (1.27 mm). This makes our harnesses lightweight, compact and very robust. Combined with the excellent fitness on the engine, we supply the top product for the engine.
The engine harness is fitted with new OEM connectors and terminals for sensors, injectors, coils, ETB, VCT and the oil pressure control valve. We have changed the harness design compared to the original layout, the Y-split is now located between the two banks at the rear of the engine, between cylinder 4 and 8.
The connection to the ECU from the back of the engine is long enough for the ECU to be fitted in the cabin - but it can of course also be fitted in the engine compartment.
The harness is wrapped using a special automotive high strength and high abrasion polyester tape with acrylic based adhesive. This tape is rated for temperatures up to 300°F.
Power Wiring Harness
The power supply harness is included in the kit and is made using the same high tech wire and tape as used for our engine harness.
It is fitted with 3 relays, one for the engine control, a second for the fuel pump and the third is intended to control a cooling fan. All relays are fitted with a 30A fuse.
Which Throttle Bodies are Supported?
Our system supports almost every single type of throttle body, you can find on the market.
Generally, supported throttle bodies are divided into 3 main groups:
- Operated by a throttle cable and fitted with an analog position sensor.
- Drive-by-wire throttle body with an analog position sensor (Euro-4 and Euro-8+ only).
- Drive-by-wire throttle body fitted with a digital SENT style position sensor (Euro-8+ ECU only).
Control Pack
We have changed the way we supply calibrations with our kits. Initially, there were not that many performance parts available But today there are so many different parts on the market, numerous different intakes, throttle bodies, camshafts etc.
The changes between our kits using different performance parts are with the ECU tune and it can be configured to handle almost any configuration, being naturally aspirated, turbo charged or supercharged engines.
We include our OB256 communication kit with our control packs to give you the perfect tool to optimize your system to perfection.
Kit for a naturally aspirated engine includes these parts:
- OBR Euro-2+, Euro-4 or Euro-8+stand alone engine controller, supplied with base calibration.
- New OBR high quality engine wiring harness.
- Power supply harness complete with 3 relays for main power, fuel pump and coolant fan, all fitted with 30A fuses and connections for your tach and a secondary cooling fan.
- 1 wide band lambda sensor for closed loop fuel control.
- OB256 ECU communication kit for full ECU software access.
- OBD II link (Euro-8+ ECU kit only).
Optional parts may include:
- GM throttle pedal with cable for OBR engine harness.
- Second NTK wide band lambda sensor for closed loop bank to bank fuel control.
- Fuel pressure sensor kit OB255.
- 3 bar MAP air pressure sensor for supercharged or turbocharged engines.
Which Kit To Order:
Give us a call to talk about your planned engine program.
To help making us pick the right engine tune, we will need to know for example which intake manifold, which type and model of throttle body, injectors and camshaft you want to use.
Please note that depending on your chosen parts, the ECU tune might need correction. This is typically an easy fix since you can have full access to the ECU tune.
Does OBR Offer After Sales Support?
Yes, OBR has an excellent after sales service.
For a period of 12 month from your purchase, you are free to contact us by phone and by email with questions or comments about the kit, this is included with your purchase of the kit.
The kit includes our ECU communication tool, you have full access to the ECU software.
Introduction and software and calibration support for 2 hours is included with your purchase.
If additional support is required, this can be purchased separately.
If you want to have OBR support during a complete remapping session of an engine, we will charge our normal engineering support charge per hour.
Installation of our kits:
Installing our control pack is straight forward:
- Fit our new engine harness, it comes complete with original connectors, nothing to modify on the engine.
- Plug the throttle pedal in.
- Plug the included power supply harness into the engine harness power connector.
- Connect the two power supply wires according to the instructions.

Your engine is now ready to be started.
What to expect performance wise...
All our calibrations are developed to optimize performance, drive ability and fuel economy. We have spent hours and hours on fine tuning the calibrations we offer for various stages of performance for the LS engines. One thing to bear in mind when looking at power and torque figures is to look at how the engine was tested. Typically the engine is tested with the alternator active, water pump connected and in use but without the exhaust system from the vehicle.
Furthermore, automotive manufacturers claim their performance data according to the J1349 norm while the motorsport industry uses the J607 norm, also called STP for Standard Temperature and Pressure This norm specifies different conditions than the automotive norm and therefor the power rating figures are slightly higher than for performance according to J1349. So, power ratings advertised will therefor be higher than what is originally claimed for the engine.

Data export and import via CAN:
In addition to the OBD II data export (Euro-8+ only), the ECUs can also export via their CAN lines:
- Euro-2+ can export 33 data channels via CAN.
- Euro-4 can export up to 64 data channels via CAN and import up to 8 channels.
- Euro-8+ can export up to 80 data channels via CAN and import up to 16 channels.
With this feature data can be displayed on a CAN based display, exported to a transmission controller or to a data logger.
The CAN export is in Motorola format and the standard baud rate is 1 Mbit/s.
On-board data recording:
Using the OB256 communication kit you have access to the on-board data recording in Euro-4 (8 Mb) and in Euro-8+ (128 Mb).
Our ECU software comes complete with a data analysis software.
Vehicle speed and traction control:
The wiring harness is supplied with an auxiliary input connector. In this connector you will find inputs for up to 4 wheel speed sensors. Car speed can be generated from using a single speed sensor triggering off the prop shaft.
If the vehicle is fitted with a Bosch Motorsport or Teves Motorsport ABS system, vehicle data can be imported from these modules via CAN.
If 4 wheel speed signals are available, a race developed traction control can be activated.
Drag race control and launch control with Euro-8+:
A section in the E8G ECU software includes launch control and drag race features. The system will handle a two-step limiter, the transmission lock.
You can control these engine parameters as function of the drag timer. The drag timer starts running the moment you let go of the trans lock switch:
- Target boost pressure
- Actual throttle position
- Spark advance offset
- Engine RPM limiter
- Nitrous control
Gear shift control for manual transmissions:
Both ECUs have a dedicated power shaft and paddle shift gear shift control for use with manual race type transmissions. The closed loop strategy has individual shift settings for each gear for both up and down shift.
Automatic transmission controller:
A stand alone controller is required if an automatic transmission is used. The engine wiring harness has a connector for such a controller, providing connections to:
- Power and ground
- Engine RPM and load
- CAN data export (used by some manufacturers for engine data)
Connection to instrument cluster:
Our ECUs can send data via CAN to almost any instrument cluster which have a CAN or OBD II link for importing data.
Where to purchase our control packs:
Our kit is supplied through selected specialist dealers across the country, these tuning shops can access the ECUs software features.
So if you are thinking about modifying your engine, for example by fitting a high performance camshaft, fitting a supercharger or going for a turbo solution, our kit is easily updated to accept such changes.
Ask us about these performance updates.
Dealer inquiries are welcome.
